COMMODORE V6 3.8LTR EFI ENGINE

V6 Conversions have developed a Conversion Kit that allows the installation of the Holden Commodore V6 3.8ltr EFI V6 engine to the above vehicle. The kit is designed to replace the Mitsubishi 2.6ltr, 4 cylinder petrol engine (carby model), as well as the 2.5ltr 4 cylinder diesel engine.
The kit is designed to allow the V6 engine to be fitted to the standard 5-speed gearbox. The adaptor kits are designed to allow adequate firewall clearance therefore eliminating the need to move the transfer case or modify drive shafts.
The adaptor housing is a flywheel housing with the GM bolt pattern on the front and the Mitsubishi bolt pattern on the rear. The adaptor housing measures 80mm or 3.15” in length, which allows adequate firewall and throttle body clearance.
The adaptor housing allows the standard V6 GM clutch pressure plate with a V8 clutch disc to be used on the V6 flywheel. The V8 clutch disc provides less clutch shudder in the heavier 4WD due to the clutch plate having stronger centre springs.
The clutch is coupled to the gearbox by a special gearbox input extension shaft. It has the GM spigot diameter with external spline on the engine end and Mitsubishi spigot diameter with external spline on the gearbox end.
The Mitsubishi engine mounting kit (Part no. V6C1026) enables the use of the standard GM engine bracket located on the left side of the engine. This design allows the use of the standard GM air conditioning compressor if required.
Comprehensive fitting instructions are also supplied as part of the kit along with excellent technical backup support if required.
You will need to obtain the following components –
* The Commodore V6 engine complete with the main engine wiring harness, the ECM computer and memcal. Other accessories such as the map sensor, purge canister, air cleaner & ducting, air-conditioning compressor & power steering pump, engine pipes & catalytic converter, external fuel pump & damper.
The Series One engines have two crankshaft bolt patterns and starter motor types, the manual transmission type and the automatic transmission type. For this reason they are not interchangeable.
However, Series Two and later engines have the same crankshaft so they can be converted from automatic to manual by fitting a flywheel and changing the memcal
This only applies to VN and VP engines, VR and later engines have different computers and wiring looms for automatic and manual.
You can leave your original fuel tank in place by using an external EFI fuel pump and modifying the filler neck by way of a return line and restrictor so that it will only accept an UNLEADED nozzle.
The V6 motor does not have an engine driven fan, you can use your original radiator and fit the fan and cowling from the VN-VY or a 16″ Davies Craig or similar.
The wiring kit we have available covers from the VN-VY. It comes in 2 parts, the under bonnet loom with all the relays and fuses and the under dash loom which incorporates an engine trouble light. The wiring kit plugs into the V6 engine and gearbox loom leaving only 6 wires to be tapped into your vehicles original loom, which are – alternator light, oil light, temp light or gauge, ignition, starter & tacho. Our speedo kit comes in 2 forms, an in line speed sensor that fits the T700 or T5 and uses your original speedo cable for VN, VP auto’s and VN-VY manual’s or an electronic speedo for VR-VY auto instillations.
